Gatsby was part of a poor farming family in North Dakota when he decided to reinvent himself. he does this by trying to live the American Dream, which involves social class, wealth, and a familt which he is trying to have with Daisy Buchanan. He goes into the war to gain affection from Daist, but loses contact with her so he tries to find new ways such such as first becoming wealthy and successful. In the process he feels a sort of isolation trying to chase the same girl for one dream. In the end, he is unfortunately killed, and ultimately alone, failing his attempt at living the American Dream he chased his entire life for.

Nick comes from a well-living family in the Midwest. Coming from suhc a bakcground shapes him into the man he is today. He also fought in the war along with attending Yale. He runs into Gatsby after he settles in the house next door. Nick is very observant of all the scandal going on, but never seems to do anything about it since he is also going through his own struggles. By the end of the novel he to is still lonely, since his only friend was killed.
Daisy Buchanan

Daisy comes from a wealthy lifestyle, and marries into more wealth with Tom Buchanan. At one point in the novel she is found reconnecting with Gatsby and becomes conflicted on whether she should leave the stability and security of Tom for love. She unknowingly assists in the killing of the love of her life Gatsby, and decided to stay with Tom, but shows how she is trully shallow with the way she just moves on rather then going to the funeral or being upset. This shows that she only ever cared about the social and marietal status over true love.

Tom also comes from wealth is marries Daisy for the same money reasons. He gets very controlling over Daisy's life, while also finding himself having an affair with Myrtle Wilson. The moment he feels his authority is threatened in any wat he gets very aggressive and arrogant with other peoples lives. He plays a big role in the death of Jay Gatsby when he tells George that Gatsby is the one that hit and killed Myrtle.

Myrtle is married to George Wilson and they live the life of the working class. Myrtle envies this life and yearns for higher status. To achieve this she starts to have an affair with Tom Buchanan in hopes they run away together and she can live a new life freeing her from her mundane one. She never gets the chance to break free from this life because after one encounter with aggressive Tom she tries to escape and ends up jumping in front of a car that she believes to be Tom's, but was actually Daisy driving Gatsby's car resulting in her death. This scene gets the ball moving on the wrongful death of Gatsby.
George Wilson

George plays a big role in the working middle class. He does this by owning his own autobody shop in the desolated area of the Valley of Ashes. Though hardworking and devoted to his wife, he is lied to about the affair she having with Tom. The love he had for her was so strong that hearing about her death completely shut him down, so when Tom led him to a possible suspect he took the anger and ended up killing Jay Gatsby.
